A famed wrestler and strongman celebrated his birthday

Google on Sunday unveiled a more brawny-looking logo for India. The new artwork, created by artist Vrinda Zaveri, portrays Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, aka Gama Pehlwan — one of India’s greatest wrestlers. 

On May 22, 2022, Google initiated a Doodle for their founder known as “The Great Gama” to celebrate his 144th birthday. Drawings showing him as a strong, muscular man with huge arms and lean body mass.

Zaveri is a guest doodler who also draws in honor of Malaysia National Day, India Independence Day, actress Meena Kumar’s birthday, and more.

Who is Gama Pehlwan

Gama Pehlwan was born in the Amritsar District of British India on May 22, 1878. At 10 years old, Pehlwan entered a local strongman contest and won by lifting a buffalo. In the following years, he became known for strength and endurance feats such as carrying heavy loads in public processions and climbing up to the roof of a house.
